Tour of the Design Republic Showroom and Shop

When I stepped into the amazing building that houses the flagship showroom and shop for Design Republic in Shanghai, China, I was quite blown away!

First, the historic building previously housed the police headquarters in Shanghai.  It had been completely renovated to modernize the space to perfection, while keeping the bones of the original structure.  It was truly AMAZING!

Second, the collection inside was completely dreamy!  It included the most innovative and new designs of the most coveted brands and I was completely speechless.

Needless to say, I couldn't stop taking pictures of each of the rooms in the building since they were all so different and everywhere you look, there was a corner or hallway or bathroom that was impeccably placed with the perfect piece of furniture and objects for the space.

I would suggest getting yourself a cup of coffee or tea for this tour since it is a quite a long blog post!  Let's begin...

Here is the historic building from the outside.  You can see it is quite large!

This is what greets you from one of the entrances...
The Horse Floor Lamp is by Sofia Lagerkvist, Charlotte von der Lancken, and Anna Lindgren.  They are members of the Swedish design group, Front.  This is manufactured by Moooi, an avant-garde Dutch design firm.
I couldn't stop taking pictures since every room I stepped into was so amazing and different from the last...
The exposed old brick is from the original structure and it is so nice to see this was retained with the crisp white walls and skylights...one of my favorite looks!
The round pendant chandelier is by Omer Arbel for Bocci, a contemporary design and manufacturing house located in Vancouver, Canada.
The showroom is beautifully set up like rooms in a dream house!
Every light fixture, sofa, chair, rug, and object in the room is represented by Design Republic!

I found this so inspiring and I wish my house looked like this!  Both of the stunning lights in the room are by Roy & Hill, which is based in Brooklyn, NY.  The chandelier above the dining table is the brass Agnes Chandelier and the other is the Rudi Single Loop light.
The Random Light (2002) by Bertjan Pot for Moooi.

I LOVE that chair on the top...looks like a rabbit!!  It is produced by the Japanese furniture manufacturer, Maruni, and designed by SANAA.
The black Serge Mouille floor lamp on the right side of the room, designed in the 1950's, is a classic!  It is on my wish list!  The room is filled with various beautiful furniture...some classics mixed perfectly with the modern.
Love the old windows and the old brick from the original building which is still visible, and mixed with the modern chair and table...and the old birdcage!

Even the hallways looked really cool...

Nice rug with the simple design!  This was designed by Figura humana 1948 rug, by Eduardo Chillida, for Nanimarquina.
There is a Baccarat showroom with the complete collection at Design Republic!  WOW!!!
The chair is by Maarten Baas and is called the Smoke Chair, for Moooi.

I love this Formosa flower rug designed by Japanese artist, Michael Lin for Nanimarquina!

I love the color yellow!  That sunny table is the Pallas Table by Konstantin Gricic (2003) for Classicon in Germany.
So many great designs all in one room!!

The lights hanging in the background is the "LED it be" light by Raimond Puts for Moooi.
Love this Tom Dixon copper shade!
Every space was utilized and everything was so perfectly placed.  The Steelwood Armchair is designed by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec (2008) for Magis Design.
The door was left in its original state, showing the heritage of the building along with the vintage chairs.
I peered into the bathroom....even THAT looked amazing!
The Emeco Navy Chair is very appropriate in the space!
 More speechless amazing spaces!

This is the showroom space dedicated to HAY, a Danish design collective which collaborates with highly skilled and talented international designers to create their collection of furniture and accessories.  LOVE!!!
In the front of the store is more furniture!  The colorful chairs on the left are the Gothic Chair by Moooi.  The chairs on the right are Chair One with the concrete base, by industrial designer, Constantin Grcic.
The giant origami cranes hanging in the front of the store were folded out of a clear plastic sheeting...very cool idea!!
I love this collection of white furniture on the daisy rug!  The Voido Rocking Chair on the left is by Ron Arad.  The chair on the right is the Julian chair designed by Javier Mariscal (2004) for Magis Me Too Collection.

That concludes my tour of Design Republic in Shanghai.  I hope you can visit them sometime too!
